Feel Good Green Smoothie

Do you ever zone out and think, “What the F am I doing with my life?” Like, where am I going? And how am I getting there?

Okay, I started writing this post yesterday feeling super down on life. I wrote out a whole spiel on how I am in this weird slump.

But today I don’t want to post something depressing, because feeling that way made me realize how grateful I am. It forced me to be like, “UHM you’re pretty freakin’ lucky and amazing and beautiful and have so much to offer you’re just getting started so don’t even worry about life (or something like that).” And I even considered making every one of my posts until Christmas about something I’m grateful for. But that would take up SO MANY blog posts, and would you guys even be interested in hearing how happy I am about little things? For example, I just bought new pants and I got a free wrap from the cafeteria downstairs. Who doesn’t love new jeans and free food? I’m so grateful for jeans and hummus wraps.

I would think a lot of people get into this slump every once in a while, especially around this time of the year, when it becomes more gray and cold; or “cuffing season” as in, “another way to say ‘baby it’s cold outside, so I want to find a significant other to watch Netflix with,'” according to the Skimm. On the other hand, everything is going well, you’re healthy and you have a job or maybe you don’t, and you have fun on the weekends and you’re able to pay bills even if it means you can’t buy groceries that week or at least you’re surviving, but sometimes you feel like there’s something missing, or that there’s more, it’s like how can you complain but you just feel empty sometimes like WHAT IS MY LIFE GOING TO BE?

HBR also published a story on Why Your Late Twenties Is The Worst Time of Your Life, I wouldn’t necessarily say that, my twenties have been the most exciting so far. But it does offer some valid points: we’re in a superbly confusing and lonely time of our lives when we are figuring things out for ourselves, as the post says, establishing our status as adults, with societal and environmental pressures.

Could we look at technology as a cause for these occasional slumps, making us depend on constant stimulation and the feeling of need to always be doing something? Do we blame our own attitudes? Maybe I’m just having a premature mid-twenties crisis, boggled and overwhelmed by the world and how fast life is escaping me and how I want so many things but I’m just being greedy but I’m also grateful and feel very lucky to be where I am and there are people actually suffering in this world.

So I encourage you to take a step back and think:

Are you healthy? Do you feel love? Did you eat today? Can you take a warm shower? Laugh with your friends? Do you have clothes? I also found this video: 10 Signs Your Doing Well (Even If You Don’t Feel Like It) it’s just a gentle reminder that you’re going to okay, just stay focused, chase your passions, love your friends and family unconditionally, be humble, speak softly (what? I don’t know just throwing that in there, like don’t be rude and passive aggressive).

Maybe you are feeling lonely and weird in a new city without your best friend. Maybe you just lost your mother, or an aunt, or a sister. Maybe someone in your family is dealing with cancer. Maybe you have no idea what you’re doing with your life, and you are stuck. It’s so tough, but you will get through it, and it’s important to feel what you’re feeling, to know that your love is powerful, to be human. Surround yourself with positive people energy and never give up on yourself.

SO… here is a refreshing, bright smoothie to make us all feel a little better. It’s also perfect for a post-yoga dinner. Although recently, I’ve been making an amazing quinoa and kale dish. Recipe to come friends.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
  • 1 frozen banana, chopped
  • 1/2 cup frozen broccoli florets
  • Handful of spinach
  • 1 large spoonful of honey yogurt
  • 1/2 cup Trader Joe’s unsweetened Coconut Milk Beverage

My best advice is to make sure you have these ingredients frozen, because that makes the consistency of the drink nice and creamy. Blend until smooth, top with banana and chia seeds.
